Announcing a New NISEI Format

Are you ready for a new challenge?

System Gateway and System Update 2021 are coming in December 2020, and with them, we’re announcing a new format for constructed play.

Previously, NISEI supported the Core Experience format, whose card pool was a single copy of the core set. The concept of a “core set” has changed with the design of System Gateway and System Update 2021, however, and so the Core Experience format must change as well.

In recognition of this fact, we are ending support for Core Experience and introducing a new, as-of-yet unnamed format! This will be the new NISEI limited card pool format, intended for new players taking their first steps into Organized Play and experienced players who want a slimmed-down deckbuilding challenge.

The card pool for this new format will consist of:

  1. System Gateway,
  2. the most recent System Update, initially System Update 2021, and
  3. the most recent NISEI narrative set, initially Ashes (consisting of both Downfall and Uprising).

Community feedback on Core Experience showed us that there was a large gap between that format and Standard: a player familiar with the cards in Core Experience could be easily overwhelmed by the much larger card pool of Standard. By expanding the card pool, this new format will ensure deckbuilding variety and a larger degree of freedom in deck construction than Core Experience, without asking new players to familiarize themselves with a dauntingly large list of cards. We expect it will provide a stepping stone between deckbuilding with System Gateway and deckbuilding with the full Standard card pool.

We hope this new format will prove good for beginners, as well as a fun diversion for experienced players who want the challenge of building in a limited format.

When System Gateway is released, Core Experience will be upgraded to this new format, with similar Organized Play support. The first prize kit for this format is in the NISEI pipeline, and we’re working to make it available as soon as possible.

Get ready to jack in to this new format when System Gateway and System Update 2021 come out later this year!

Product names are not yet finalized and are subject to change.
