Introducing Our Next Community Team Lead

I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve joined Null Signal Games as the new Community Team Lead! I’m Izzy Miller (they/she), founding member of the Queering the Message testing group, host of the Queering the Message podcast, and an enthusiastic Netrunner player. When I’m not clicking to draw or flatlining the runner, you’ll find me out with my camera exploring the landscapes of Vermont, USA.

It’s always been the community around the game we all play that has elevated it from an excellent game to a fixture in my life. Our previous Community Team Leads, Spencer, Mike, and Serenity, as well as the staff of Null Signal Games as a whole, have done a wonderful job building an inclusive and enthusiastic community. I’m so excited to continue the work they’ve started. To help you all get to know me, I’ve answered some questions from Ed! (Hi, I’m Ed (Ed))

Izzy, quite the meteoric rise through NSG?

Well, I started out by joining Recruitment earlier this year, but being in Recruitment really means you see where people are needed in detail. So when filling this role and what was involved with it kept coming up in our conversations, I decided to toss my name in the hat!

It’s great to have you on the team! Have you got much experience working in community spaces?

Communities have always been at the center of the most important parts of my life, so moving from participating in them to organizing them was a natural step for me. In addition to building and moderating spaces like QtM, I’ve been heavily involved in building movements around important issues like housing and food security, racial justice struggles, and international solidarity.

What do you think your biggest challenge will be taking on this role?

It’s hard to overstate how big the shoes are I’ll be filling. I think a big personal challenge will be managing the pressure that comes from being a very visible voice of Null Signal Games in public spaces, although I’m thankful to have a lot of support in place to help me bear it!

What do you love most about our Netrunner Community?

The Netrunner community is simply one of the most welcoming and inclusive communities I’ve had the pleasure of being part of, and I’m keenly aware of how much work it took to accomplish. So often I see new players from marginalized groups joining GLC and immediately gushing about how they went to some event and were made to feel so welcome. While we still have a lot of work to do, the Netrunner community in my experience leads the way in diversity, and the amount of open queerness in the community in particular brings me a lot of joy.

Can we expect any major shakeups from you?

I don’t want to say too much, but I’ve been thinking a lot about ways to support engagement with the game in ways that aren’t competitive events…

Does Barcelona have 7 parks, or are in-jokes bad for community engagement?

I’m sure we can find some definition for parks that exactly 7 areas in Barcelona would meet. Let’s just say further research is necessary.

Final question. Would you like to reveal a card?

Yes please! As those who know me probably are aware, I have a penchant for creating interesting forks with flexible corp cards and careful planning. With options for sculpting the hand and creating an even juicier Archives before we even get past the cost, this is one card I can’t wait to have in my score area.

Advancement Requirement: 5 – Agenda Points: 2

The first time each turn the Runner passes a rezzed code gate or sentry, you may pay 1credit or trash 1 card from HQ. If you do, the Runner encounters that ice again.
