Explanation of changes
The Eternal metagame has evolved significantly since the last Points List update, as players got more familiar with the cards released in Elevation. Overall Corps have benefited most from the wave of innovation brought into the format, which has resulted in a slightly Corp-favored meta. Despite this general trend, some Runner decks have still managed to perform outstandingly, ultimately affecting deckbuilding in the format in some undesirable ways.
With Vantage Point releasing really soon, we’re looking to update the Points List to lower the difference in power level between the sides as well as power down some of the more egregious outliers in the meta.
Kabonesa Wu and Ritual
The Netspace Thrillseeker has been a force to be reckoned with for a while, helming decks that range from slow and grindy control to fast and explosive combo. In the hands of the best pilots Kabonesa Wu can feel absolutely oppressive, so we decided to increase her point cost to put her more in line with the rest of the competition.
Compared to its older counterpart Diesel, Ritual is often less appealing in Standard and Startup. When it comes to Eternal however, Ritual’s uncapped nature makes it the perfect candidate for decks that look to draw a lot of cards very quickly. In particular, Ritual has become a key piece in the Nuclear Wu archetype as the single enabler that lets the deck achieve turn three wins quite consistently. We tried limiting the archetype’s power in the 25.07 update, but the deck can still put up great results without having to interact with the opponent’s board much. Because of this we’re giving Ritual a point to reflect its potential and at the same time make the combination of it, Hyperdriver and Kabonesa Wu impossible to include in the same deck.
Your Digital Life and Hellion Beta Test
Since its release in The Automata Initiative, Your Digital Life and Cerebral Imaging have been a powerful duo, pushing the Haas-Bioroid identity to new heights and forcing most Runners to pack some kind of tech cards to have a chance to compete.
In the past we’ve decided against giving points to Your Digital Life to avoid negatively affecting the NBN faction, which was struggling to compete. Recently however, Nebula Talent Management has been taking the meta by storm with some strong lists that could use a power down, so we decided it was finally time for the NBN operation to take two points.
The credits provided by Your Digital Life have been key to enabling Hellion Beta Test as a catch-all tech card for Cerebral Imaging. With the NBN operation taking a hit, we think it’s ok for Hellion Beta Test to go down to 1 point.
Skorpios Defense Systems
Skorpios has had a recent spike in popularity, leading to some quite convincing results. The Weyland identity naturally preys on the best Runners’ tendency of recurring their best cards and punishes greedy deckbuilding, both qualities that position it quite well in the metagame.
Overall, we’re happy with Skorpios’ role in the meta and we don’t think the current builds are problematically powerful. We expect runners to adapt to the new threat and pack some more solutions to Skorpios’ best cards. That being said, we want to acknowledge its power as an archetype and, despite modern lists having several spare points, we’re preemptively pointing Skorpios and keeping an eye on it, so we can act with more targeted changes if it proves too much for the meta to adapt.
Nebula Talent Management
Nebula has quickly become a staple name in the Eternal metagame thanks to its powerful ability to generate clicks that help it fast advance agendas or assemble game ending kill lines. The NBN card pool helps Nebula achieve its gameplan extremely well, by exhausting the runner’s credit pool with its taxing midrange ice and later punishing them with tagging operations.
Despite the additional point that Nebula gained in the 25.07 update, we believe the deck still has access to too many powerful cards, so we decided to increase its points cost to two.
Clan Vengeance and Zer0
In the 25.04 point list update we increased the points value for two of the strongest power cards in the Anarch faction: Clan Vengeance and Rumor Mill. The aim was to decouple the two cards and force Anarch players to choose between them, by making the popular combination of Rumor Mill, Clan Vengeance and its most consistent enabler Zer0 a total of 8 points. Since then the Anarch meta has evolved towards runners that can enable Vengeance without the self-damaging hardware, letting them also afford Rumor Mill in their arsenal. Transferring the point from Zer0 to Vengeance will unequivocally force players to choose between the meta-defining current and resource without negatively affecting the Runners that previously wanted to pair Vengeance with Zer0.
We’re also excited to show you the newest entrant to long the lineage of self-damaging Anarch cards! We’re looking forward to see how this one will perform in Clan Vengeance decks with the release of Vantage Point.
