Null Signal Games is currently recruiting for two roles: one in the Studio Coordination Team, and one in the Design Team. The Studio Coordination Team ensures that the people working to create new cards have clear deadlines and are able to meet them. The Design Team is the group responsible for coming up with new card designs.

Please note: these positions are unpaid. Null Signal Games is an all-volunteer organization.

Please note that Null Signal Games primarily communicates through an internal Discord server. The ability to access Discord is necessary for all roles.


Production Designer

As a production designer you will be working to ensure the highest quality possible for all of NSG’s physical products. This will involve layout of the cards as well as product boxes as well as some graphic design work. In this position you will be responsible for bringing together the work of all of our studio teams into the final product and delight in the satisfaction of being able to see it on store shelves and hold it in your own hands.

Duties

  • Preparing print-ready card files, box design and ancillary materials for new set releases.
  • Creating new game assets and improving existing ones.
  • Performing quality control checks on digital proofs and physical materials.

Current/Upcoming Projects

  • Layout of future cycles.
  • Layout of translated versions of new and existing sets.
  • Improving the design and quality of our physical products.

Must-have skills

  • Experience with Affinity, Photoshop, or other similar visual editor programs.
  • Page Layout.
  • Page File Layout & Preparation.
  • Vector Graphics Editing.
  • Colour Space Management.

Preferred skills

(These skills would be nice, but can be learned in role.)

  • Ability to make improvements to the existing production workflows.
  • Familiarity with the existing Netrunner product.

Workload

You will be expected to commit roughly 5 hours of work a week, however the workload may increase during the final production stages. Our team is split across the globe, so some flexibility with time zones is helpful for meetings.

Associate Game Designer

In the role of Associate Game Designer you will be part of the team that is the first to create the mechanics of new netrunner expansions. This will involve being a part of the team that shapes the future this game will take. You will be working with other members of the Design team, and liaise with the Development and Standard Balance Teams.

Applications will close once we’ve filled 3 slots.

Duties

  • Design new content for upcoming Netrunner Expansions, including cards, mechanics, and decklists.
  • Maintain set files and provide clear documentation of design intent.
  • Conduct rigorous internal playtesting to inform iteration.
  • Participate in weekly design team meetings.
  • Create and refine paper prototypes.

Current/Upcoming Projects

  • Several upcoming NSG Netrunner expansions.

Must-have skills

  • Design Thinking.
  • Game Design.
  • Creative Communication.
  • Collaboration.
  • Creative Problem Solving.
  • Playtesting.
  • Prototyping.
  • Familiarity with the Google Creative Suite.
  • Familiarity with the Netrunner Card Game.
  • Creative communication and organization are key to this role.

Preferred skills

(These skills would be nice, but can be learned in role)

  • Prior game design experience.

Workload

As an Associate Game Designer, you will be expected to provide 10+ hours a week to asynchronous design work, documentation, and internal playtesting. In addition there are weekly design meetings with the rest of the team that you will need to be able to attend. Our team is split across the globe, so some flexibility with time zones is helpful for meetings.
