Eternal Point List Update 25.07

Explanation of changes

Hey hey, I’m Toron and I would like to thank wowarlok for inviting me and OF15-15 to the Eternal team. We’re all very excited to work on Eternal and make it the best the format can be. Currently, there are a few decks that have continued to overperform after the last update, and a few new innovations that have warped the meta. Ahead of the upcoming Continental Championship season (which features some exciting in-person Eternal events!), we wanted to push the meta to be as interesting and fun as possible by bringing down the power level of some of the decks that are dominating. If you’re interested in learning more about the format before attending one of these events, check out my Beginner’s Guide, which is up to date with these changes!

Hellion Beta Test & Big Deal

Hellion Beta Test has become a meta force in Cerebral Imaging (CI) decks. With the addition of Your Digital Life in Rebellion Without Rehearsal, CI has gained unprecedented options that were previously prohibitively expensive. Hellion Beta Test is a one card solution to many of CI’s woes. With enough raw cash, it allows CI players to cleanly remove hard counters to their strategy, like Simulchip plus Clot or Clan Vengeance, while they push toward victory. By putting Hellion Beta Test at 2 points, CI is forced to choose between the available anti-tech options.

Big Deal, meanwhile, is a combo win condition for CI in just one card, opening up slots for additional econ and ice. Putting it at one point forces these decks to choose between a pointed, expensive option or more slot-intensive cheap options to close the game.

Kabonesa Wu: Netspace Thrillseeker & World Tree

Kabonesa Wu continues to find new ways to break the Eternal meta. Recent breakout archetype, Tactical Nuclear Penguins, utilized Wu’s consistency to install three Hyperdrivers and then draw her entire deck with Ritual. With Wu at three points, this combo is still possible, but the strongest closing tools, such as DDoS, won’t be available. Corps will have three to four turns to come up with a way to defend against a now much more fragile combo.

We’ve also found that non-nuclear Wu had a few too many options still available due to the sheer power of installing three Coalescence in the early game. Adding a point to the identity should slow those decks down without hurting other Shapers. We’re happy with how World Tree Wu performed at three total points, and with an extra point on Wu, the deck should perform the same. This also opens exciting World Tree decks for other Shapers.

Nebula Talent Management: Making Stars

Nebula instantly became a meta force in Standard and was widely predicted as one of the strongest cards in Elevation. But for all its potential in Standard, it has even more in Eternal. Options like Subliminal Messaging or Shipment from Tennin, alongside taxing ice like Gold Farmer and IP Block, open up extremely strong kill and scoring plans that pressure the runner on multiple fronts. Pointing Nebula will force decks to choose between some of the stronger NBN cards, giving Runners just a bit more time to respond.

Transfer of Wealth

Transfer of Wealth is one of my favorite cards in Elevation. It is an efficient, interesting, and less swingy version of Account Siphon. As such, we thought it necessary to give it a single point, as Account Siphon’s little sibling. This will put a check on strong Criminal decks that rely on econ denial, and offer more deckbuilding options to Criminal players who can now decide between big Siphon, little Siphon, or multi-Siphon.

Katorga Breakout

Katorga Breakout largely serves the same purpose in Anarch as the already pointed Déjà Vu. Pointing Katorga forces Anarch players to choose between getting a free run in or the potential of getting two viruses. This also makes it a bit harder for Anarch decks to repeatedly play strong currents like Rumor Mill or Employee Strike, which will open up some more options for Corp decks.

Tech Trader and Sting!

Tech Trader and Sting! have not had a significant presence in the Eternal meta for some time.

Tech Trader is a powerful econ option for engine building decks both in and out of faction, most notably with Geist, but those decks haven’t had much traction lately. Sting! was put on the list because it is a powerful agenda for both Personal Evolution and Potential Unleashed, but neither of these decks see much play today. We don’t expect either of these reductions to change the meta significantly.

Notable Absences

Your Digital Life

Those looking at the two cards and three points targeted at Cerebral Imaging might wonder why we aren’t targeting the obvious problem card: Your Digital Life. We’ve decided that, for the time being, we would like to keep YDL open as a point-free economy option for NBN decks. It’s a very cool card that opens up a lot of interesting decks and combos. While we expect to see some YDL in every CI deck, we don’t expect it to make them feel too monotone. If that isn’t the case, we’ll revisit it.

Employee Strike

Just like the last update, we’re keeping our eye on Employee Strike, which has the possibility of shutting down too many Corp strategies in an unfun way. Between the extra point Criminals might be spending on Transfer of Wealth, and the more expensive recursion for Anarch, we don’t foresee Employee Strike dominating the meta.
