Hey Runners! Below you will find all of the roles we are currently advertising for. The Standard Balance Team and our Playtesting team both play an important role in making sure that the cards we make are fun and balanced. The Customer Support team, on the other hand, ensures those cards get to players quickly and smoothly! If you’re keen to help out in one of these areas and the description of either of these roles sounds like a great match, please submit an application!
If you are reading this far in the future, please check out our recruitment portal for the latest information on all of our positions.
Please note: these positions are unpaid. Null Signal Games is an all-volunteer organization.
Please note that Null Signal Games primarily communicates through an internal Discord server. The ability to access Discord is necessary for all roles.
Standard Balance Team Member
As a Standard Balance Team Member, you will help ensure the health of competitive Netrunner formats via the Standard Ban List. You will discuss potential changes with and digest feedback from Null Signal Games playtesters, help with communicating balance changes to the wider Netrunner community, and help keep a close eye on the overall health of the Standard Netrunner format to help inform the Balance Team’s decision-making. You will work primarily with the Organized Play, the Development and Design Teams, as well as with playtesters specifically involved in balance.
This is a role with a high profile and a great deal of potential impact – the Balance Team’s decisions affect all official Netrunner tournaments, and, as such, the experience of Netrunner players as a whole.
This role requires you to have in-depth knowledge of the competitive Netrunner metagame. It does not require you to be a high-level player yourself – the Balance Team already contains several high-level players, and players with a broader perspective on the game may offer something unique and helpful to the team.
This role places a great emphasis on communication skills – a large portion of the job of the Balance Team is discussion with playtesters and other Balance Team members. Opinions on balance decisions often differ or even clash, so being able to clearly and effectively communicate is essential. For the same reason, being “plugged in” to the wider Netrunner community offers an additional advantage – the wider the range of opinions on the game you can easily consult, the more holistic a perspective you can bring to the Balance Team’s decision-making.
Applications close on 19 March, 2025 (2 weeks) and we will be recruiting 1 SBT Team Member.
Duties
- Contribute to decision-making on future ban lists for the Standard format.
- Help with communicating the Balance Team’s decisions to the community via blog articles.
Current/Upcoming Projects
- As the standard season before Elevation is fairly short, you will be mostly focusing on balance work for the upcoming Elevation standard format.
Must-have skills
- In-depth knowledge about the competitive meta of the game (not necessary to be a high-level competitive player).
- Strong communication skills both within a smaller group and in writing banlists to the community.
- Connected to the Netrunner community to gather feedback from community members of various skill levels.
Workload
The Workload as an SBT Member is irregular. You will be expected to be able to spend about 10-20 hours of work in a 2 week period while a new banlist is being created. This will involve a 1-3 hour call with the rest of the team to discuss. As our team is split across the globe, some flexibility with time zones is helpful for meetings.
A note on diversity
We acknowledge that the tabletop industry as a whole needs to do a better job with diversity. We are prioritizing those applicants that can bring to NSG different experiences and points of view than we currently have on our team.
NOTE: Null Signal Games is a volunteer organization. All roles at Null Signal Games are unpaid.

Playtest Coordinator
As the Playtest Coordinator, you will be in charge of the playtest server. In this role you will ensure that feedback from playtesters is collected and work with the Development team to make the relevant updates to cards throughout the testing period of a new set. This work will involve you assisting with releasing updated versions of the cards to the playtesters multiple times. You will also be in charge of screening and adding playtest applicants.
Applications close on 19 March, 2025 (2 weeks) and we will be recruiting 1 Playtest Coordinator.
Duties
- Review playtest applications on a regular basis, screen applicants, and onboard new playtesters.
- Assist with the process of moving the latest card updates from Airtable to the playtester-accessible spreadsheet.
- Moderate playtest server discussions to ensure they are in line with the Code of Conduct.
- Collect playtesters’ information for set credits and playtest rewards.
- Help maintain playtest resources like feedback forms and version spreadsheets.
Current/Upcoming Projects
- Refining the application and onboarding process for adding new playtesters.
Must-have skills
- Excellent written communication. Ability to de-escalate and resolve conflicts in a professional manner.
- Ability to empathize with people from all walks of life and understanding of EDI dynamics.
Preferred skills
(These skills would be nice, but can be learned in role)
- Help maintain Discord bots and feedback collection automation.
- Ability to build out methods for collecting data from playtest games.
- Proficiency in Javascript and Python and database management.
Workload
You will be expected to keep up with the daily playtest conversations. Everyone in the Development team keeps an eye on these conversations so it will not be solely up to you to do so. This could be as little as 5-10 minutes a day. There are no regular meetings that you will be required to attend but you may require some one-off meetings to help with specific projects. Project work can also be done at your own pace. For the first 2-3 months, our hope is that you can dedicate 5-10 hours a week to getting these projects done. Our team is split across the globe, so some flexibility with time zones is helpful for meetings.

Customer Support Team Member
In this role, you will get to talk directly with the people looking to get into or deepen their involvement with Netrunner. You will be the tip of the proverbial spear: handling questions about the game, solving order issues, troubleshooting customer-facing issues as they arise, and working side by side with the Distribution and Organized Play teams to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Applications close once we’ve filled 1-2 slots.
Duties
- Respond to support tickets received from Null System Games customers through Zendesk.
- Become familiar with the Shopify storefront in order to understand what the customers are seeing.
- Liaise with other teams as needed in order to help develop solutions to customer issues.
Current/Upcoming Projects
- None, this is an ongoing role.
Must-have skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (English).
- Patience and understanding. Being able to let cooler heads prevail in order to identify underlying issues so they can be solved in a professional manner. Remember, English isn’t everyone’s first language! It can be expected that you will be helping frustrated people who can occasionally come across as ungrateful, mean or disrespectful. Helping these folks is no less important!
Preferred skills
(These skills would be nice, but can be learned in role)
- Use of the Zendesk support platform. We will help familiarize you with this, but prior experience with it is a plus.
- A willingness to learn some of the technical side of the systems is a plus.
Workload
You will be expected to spend 5 hours a week on support team work, though the volume will be higher during certain times, such as during a new set release. Most internal communications will be through discord chat and direct messages over discord, with the occasional group call once every couple of months. Our team is split across the globe, so some flexibility with time zones is helpful for meetings.
