With Elevation, as we had previously done for the Liberation cycle in Brazil, there was a push by the Visual team to commission local talent from countries–namely, Indonesia and Malaysia–that would be highlighted in Elevation. This was even more so the case for Elevation than it had been for Liberation Elevation was going to establish a new megacity, and one that would be the home for endless stories to come. Having local artists who could accurately depict how this sprawling, tropical megacity in southeast Asia looks, feels, smells, and sounds would lend more authenticity to the setting and also ensure that it is grounded in its location. Furthermore, there were some cultural elements tied to specific runners–such as wayang kulit–that we preferred to have a local artist familiar with the culture represent so that those elements were accurately portrayed.
The artists featured include both familiar faces to Netrunner and those new to the cyberpunk genre. They’re concept artists, game artists, and character artists with lovely attention to detail and a passion for their work. Here’s a more in-depth look at the wonderful local artists who lent their talents to Elevation, helping to make this addition to Netrunner feel rich and nuanced.

I don’t think I have a specific project with a cyberpunk theme.
but i started to make my own IP with a cyberpunk theme. I don’t know what it will be in the future.
It’s a cyberpunk-fy of Indonesian fairy tales. Old pop culture, old comics, mythology, ghosts etc.

“Currently based in the Netherlands but my family from my mom’s side hails from Indonesia. Java to be exact. Quite proud of my mixed Indonesian heritage; I consider myself Indo first and foremost. I wear that former slight as a badge of pride, like many of our mixed descent do.”

Big fan of science fiction in general, especially dystopian, so cyberpunk fits right up my sleeve.

Favorite piece so far for Null Signal must be Coalescence, as it came together very quickly in a matter of just 3-4 days, but I also consider it my best piece so far. Next to that the One Orb That Rules All will always be a fave.
Anything else you’d like to share?
Always be Running! (in my case literally, as I compete in Hyrox events these days 🙂 ).

I watched films like Akira and Bladerunner, which were my first visual references to the cyberpunk genre. The anime Psycho Pass was actually one of my favourite cyberpunk dystopian anime series. Cyberpunk Edgerunner was fun to watch too!

I really enjoyed working on all the pieces, Suzanne was very clear with the briefs and feedback throughout the process. If I had to really pick a piece I liked, it would’ve been designing the space elevator!

“I currently live in Yogyakarta. Since childhood, I have had a deep passion for drawing, which eventually grew into a profession. With a background in Fine Arts Education from Bandung, I honed my skills in illustration, both traditional and digital, as well as various genres.
After graduating, I joined Polar Engine Studio in Yogyakarta, a city known for its vibrant art ecosystem. There, I have been involved in various illustration and concept design projects, exploring characters, expressions, and cultural elements, including the Wayang Cyberpunk Netrunner project I worked on recently.”
